World Stage

One of the biggest ill's of our society is parents not respecting, supporting or motivating their children. Instead they want to impose and force you to be or do something they want. For some reason it seems never to be about you but its always about them.

Take pregnancy for example, parents will put on a show and host massive pity parties, forgetting that its not just happening to them alone but also the one who is pregnant or has impregnated. You get alienated from your situation and take the role of the passive spectator as your own life unravels before your very eyes. I refuse to be that parent, I'm sorry.

Don't get me wrong, its noble that our parents bend over backwards for us to get somewhere, but its a double edged sword. I sometimes feel like that's where they wanted to be so they live vicariously through us all under the farce of "we want better for you than what we had". What is better?

Better is support and encouragement, better is listening to the child more than you shout or talk to them, better is not forcing your child to be a Doctor just because you fell short on becoming one, better is understanding that everyone has special gifts and that formal education will not necessarily be harmonius with those gifts and lastly better is identifying your childs potential and helping them to maximize it.
