"In this bright future you can't forget your past"- Bob Marley. These words carry a lot of weight especially considering the fact that we are living in bright times and most of us have forgoten where  we come from and the sacrifice it took for us to be comfortable. As far as I could remember I've always known that in order to know where you're going you need to know where you come from.

It's saddening how our history and who we are is marred by sensationalism which we lap up without question. This year the ANC celebrates it's centenary, how many of us really understand and appreciate the magnitude of this. What this means is its been 100 years since the party, your party was established. This also means 100 years of blood, sweat and tears, which could'nt possibly have been spilled in vain. What was is supposed to be a year of big celebrations for everyone who fought for this freedom and those who enjoy it has been been diverted into a frenzy of confusion and mirages of anarchy appear everywhere. If the aim was to derail our progress as a people, they are getting it right. And we are not questioning anything, we accept what we are told and fight over and scavenge through their leftovers.

We need to remember who we are as a people, we need to adapt the teachings of our struggle heroes like Steve Biko and rekindle our consciousness, about being black. I took the liberty of getting the defintion of consciousness  and it is defined as; the state  of being conscious and being aware of one's own existence, sensations, thoughts, surroundings etc. The key word is awareness, and that entails having knowledge about who and what you are. Knowledge can only be achieved if we aquaint ourselves with facts and truths about where we come from, and not with what they are telling us we are going.

This one is not only in commemoration for the people who had to fall for US to rise, but for those who relentlessly pursue to uphold what those people fell for (you know who you are). I consider this Blog as a journey, as I learn about myself hopefully I will in turn assist somebody else as they chart their ship on their own course of self discovery. They can never tell you where you are going unless YOU know where you come from. Look back and remember what it took for you to be where you are today.

With that said I have taken it upon myself to school and remind you of the people who are responsible for you getting that job, going to that school, shopping at that place, living in that suburb and driving that car. I will provide you with knowledge that will help you unlock your cognizance  and increase your understanding of the self.
"Being black is not a matter of pigmentation- being black is a reflection of a mental attitude"-Steve Biko.

Kind Regards
